10 years to reach EU targets: How to make it happen?

The new European legislation on waste was approved in May 2018 and it aims at taking Europe towards a Circular Economy. Which are the main obligations? Is it possible to have a fast transition? These are only two of the main questions covered by the webinar. Our experts are going to explain how to implement the transition and which are the main areas of work. Zoltán Pasztai

General Manager Eco Bihor

As General Manager of the Romanian private waste management company Eco Bihor Zoltán is an advocate of waste management based on the cooperation between the private company and the local government within a sustainable economy. In order to change radically the Romanian waste collection system Zoltán started trying to introduce in the Romanian legislation the PAYT system as a financial incentive in 2015, succeeding in 2017 in collaboration with Elena Rastei from Zero Waste Romania. In 2018 he started a pilot project in Salacea, with the local waste collector company Ave Bihor, bringing the small town (3000 inhabitants) to become the leading community for waste management in Romania.

Jaka Kranjc

Secretary General at Ecologist without Borders

Jaka Kranjc has been a full-time environmentalist since 2009 in one of the most successful Slovenian environmental NGOs, Ecologists without Borders Association, which is also the national Zero Waste organisation for Slovenia. He works on various waste prevention projects, Zero Waste strategies and the historic problem of illegally dumped waste. Realising passive action is not enough, the association organised two massive cleanup projects that both activated about every seventh inhabitant of Slovenia to come clean with them on a single day. That in turn enabled the long term work on prevention.

Enzo Favino

Scientific Coordinator at Zero Waste Europe

Enzo Favoino is a technical expert and researcher at the Scuola Agraria del Parco di Monza (Italy) and has decades of experience in the separate waste collection, recycling, composting and prevention. He is an expert in EU waste legislation and is highly knowledgeable in the field of European policy-making. He is one of the founders of the European Compost Network and the coordinator of the Scientific Committee of the Zero Waste Research Centre in Italy.

Ferran Rosa

Waste Policy Officer at Zero Waste Europe

Ferran Rosa actively promotes an ambitious transition towards a Circular Economy in Europe. He is responsible for providing technical support to municipalities and for the identification and dissemination of best practices in terms of waste prevention and management. He also takes a lead in producing regular case studies that highlight successful stories of transitions towards zero waste. He has previously worked for the European Commission, supporting the design of policy alternatives to current waste-related legislation; for the Green European Foundation, promoting the major ecological ideas and proposals at the European level and for GOB Mallorca on the sustainable use of land and natural resources. Ferran holds a Masters Degree in European Studies from the Université Libre de Bruxelles.

Esra Tat

Moderator - Network and Development Coordinator at Zero Waste Europe

Esra Tat leads on the strategic development of the ZWE network and coordinates the Zero Waste Cities programme with its knowledge platform, the Zero Waste Masterplan, and the flagship “Zero Waste Municipality” mentoring and recognition programme. She is in charge of designing and further developing the tools to promote and accelerate Zero Waste strategies at the local level. In support of the ZWE members, she also oversees the recognition programme at the European level. Previously ,with a background on project management and environment, Esra co-directed a social enterprise and worked as a programme manager on energy efficiency and eco-housing programs. Esra holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Management.
