Study tour

Milan and Treviso, Italy

21st November 2022 - 23rd November 2022

Zero Waste Europe is organising its first Study Tour in 3 years; this time we will be returning to the birthplace of the European zero waste movement – Italy.

Visit two of Europe’s front-running schemes for sustainable management of waste, the city of Milan and the Treviso region, home to the waste management company, Contarina, a long-time zero waste champion.

Discover innovative and world-leading waste management and prevention projects. Milan currently implements a 65% separate collection system in a city totalling 1.4 million inhabitants, with an extra 600,000 daily commuters. Whilst the waste management company Contarina, responsible for 49 municipalities covering 554,000 inhabitants, achieves a recycling rates of 85% whilst producing just 58kgs of residual waste per capita.

Get hands on experience on what is required to deliver highly effective separate collection and recycling systems at the local level, as well as what effective reuse policies look like in both urban and rural areas.

Receive expert advice and training on how kerbside schemes, waste reduction programmes and zero waste strategies are being implemented on the ground, learnings that you can take back with you and apply in your local context.

Learn how to implement our zero waste cities model and the benefits it can bring to your municipality through a workshop delivered by Zero Waste Europe staff.

Connect with experts, officials and colleagues from across Europe to share experiences and form new ideas.
